Kirillo-Belozersky Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve

The museum was opened in 1924 on the territory of the former Kirillo-Belozersky monastery. In 1997, it was included in the State Code of Especially Valuable Objects of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation. The museum includes the architectural ensembles of the Kirillo-Belozersky and Ferapontov monasteries (Museum of Dionysius frescoes), the Tsypinsky Pogost museum complex with the wooden church of Elijah the Prophet (1755), the Epiphany Church (1733), V.I. Belov memorial museum. The museum has excellent collections of ancient Russian painting, facial and ornamental sewing, handwritten and early printed books, decorative and applied and folk art, archeology. The museum has world fame thanks to the painting of the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin by the greatest icon painter Dionysius (1502). In 2000, architectural Monuments of Ferapontov Monastery are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
